Offshore vibration and noise testing that stands up onshore.

Earlsmere mobilises calibrated kit and an experienced engineer to installations and vessels, measures hand-arm vibration, whole-body vibration and noise in real use, and reports A(8) and LEX,8h exposure against the 2005 Regulations.

Why offshore is different
Planned like a mobilisation, not a site visit.

An offshore survey gets one chance to go right. The kit, the paperwork and the plan travel with the engineer, and the measurement fits around a working installation rather than the other way round.

Logistics

Weather windows and bed space

Trips are planned around flights or vessel transfer, bed space and the weather window. Kit is cased, charged and checked before it leaves Barnsley, with calibration records to hand, so the survey completes within the visit.

On the installation

Working around live operations

Testing is arranged around permits to work and shift patterns, and tools are measured in the hands of the crews who actually use them. Operators are briefed on the procedure before any test begins.

The paperwork

Reporting that stands up onshore

Measurements are taken on UKAS-calibrated instruments to BS EN ISO 8041, with HAV assessed to BS EN ISO 5349. Reports land as A(8) and LEX,8h against the action and limit values, reviewed and signed off before issue.

What we test offshore
Three exposures, one visit.

The same assessments we run onshore, adapted for installations and vessels: measured in use, worked up as daily exposure, and compared against the values set by the Regulations.

Hand-arm vibration

Deck and maintenance tools

Impact wrenches, grinders, saws and drills tested in the task, with exposure based on actual trigger times rather than estimates. Every tool gets a time to the action and limit values, so the high-risk kit is obvious at a glance.

EAV 2.5·ELV 5.0 m/s² A(8)

Whole-body vibration

Crew seating and plant

Seat-pad accelerometers log vibration through vessel crew seating and plant, capturing what a shift actually feels like from the seat. Reported as A(8) with clear comparisons against the action and limit values.

EAV 0.5·ELV 1.15 m/s² A(8)

Noise at work

At the operator's ear

Noise measured at the ear for tools and plant, in dB(A) and dB(C) so low-frequency content shows up. Daily exposure is reported as LEX,8h, with hearing protection guidance matched to the levels found.

How it runs
From scope call to signed report.

Four steps, agreed before anyone travels.

01

Scope call

Tool list, headcount and the trip window agreed up front, along with anything the installation needs from us before travel.

02

Mobilisation

Kit cased, charged and checked, with calibration records travelling alongside. Everything the survey needs goes with the engineer.

03

Measurement offshore

Tools and seating tested in use, arranged around live operations. Operators briefed first, results logged as we go.

04

Analysis and report

Exposure worked up as A(8) and LEX,8h after the trip. Findings ranked by tool, reviewed and signed off before issue.
